Born in Valencia, Spain in 1357, entered the Order of St. Dominic at 19 and chosen prior of the Dominican house in Valencia after his ordination. A brilliant theologian (book) during the Great Western Schism dividing The Church between three popes, tried unsuccessfully to rectify the division. For the next 20 years became a famous missionary throughout Europe. His fiery sermons and accompanying miracles resulted in numerous conversions and the name the “Angel of Judgement” (wings) and “Flaming torch of chastity” (flame on his head) for stressing repentance and the fear of coming judgement. Refusing all ecclesiastical dignities - even the cardinal’s hat - he only desired apostolical missionary. He lived to behold the end of the schism and the election of Pope Martin V before his death in 1419. Patron of builders (The Church), Valencia (orange)
