Born in the 4th c. the daughter of a wealthy and influential Italian family during pagan Roman rule. She and her sister Anatolia were beautiful Catholic noblewomen arranged to wed pagan noblemen. Victoria was initially content with marrying in hopes of converting her suitor, but Anatolia refused to marry; she convinced Victoria to do the same, seeking to devote their lives solely to God. The suitors convinced authorities to imprison the women in their houses hoping to convince them to denounce their faith; the sisters responded by selling their possessions, giving the money to the poor, and converting all the hired servants. Anatolia was martyred by her suitor, after initially locked in a room with a poisonous snake that didn’t harm her. Hearing of this, Victoria’s suitor tried periods of kindness followed by extreme ill-treatment and starvation for years to change her mind. Eventually he stabbed her to death in a fit of rage; he was instantly struck with leprosy and died days later. Feast Day: December 23
