Born in 1stc AD, a Greek Gentile from Crete who studied Greek philosophy and poetry before converted by St. Paul. Becomes a peacemaker, administrator, missionary, and great disciple and companion of the apostle to whom he addressed one of his letters (2 Cor), was also noted in Galatians, and referred to as “my true child in our common faith.” Dispatched to Corinth with a fundraising letter from Paul to collect for the poor in Jerusalem and to reconcile the Greek Christians with Paul after the fallout from the 1st Corinthians letter delivered by Timothy. Later sent to Crete to help organize the Church and ordained a bishop by Paul. Died at 97, his relics in St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice, Italy. Patron of the United States Army Chaplain Corps; the Corps has established the Order of Titus Award, “to recognize outstanding performance of ministry by chaplains and chaplain assistants…ensuring the delivery of prevailing religious support to the American Soldier.”
