Chancellor and Archbishop of Canterbury in 1100s. Strong, spirited youth he enjoyed sports and hunting. After studying canon law, he became Archdeacon with important missions to Rome. Enjoying a lavish lifestyle as Chancellor for King Henry II, they were of similar mind. Against Thomas’ wishes, Henry plotted to make him Primate of England, quickly rising from priest to archbishop. Worldly excess left his life, focusing on ecclesiastical duties, distributing alms and visiting the infirmed. When troubles between the church and state mounted, knights killed him with a sword to the head in his church. Patron of the priesthood
