Born in Italy in 1225, he entered the Dominicans against his parents’ wishes. Called "Dumb Ox" as a boy by his teachers, his mind simply operated on a different level! He became a Master of Theology and Doctor of the Church because of his many writings including his famous Summa Theologiae. Although in a vision Christ told him, “You have written well of me, Thomas,” Aquinas felt his writings were as “valuable as straw” compared to the wonders of God. He is depicted with the Holy Spirit dove whispering in his ear and the sun medallion as “the most brilliant light of the Church.”
