Recorded in the Acts of the Apostles, he was one of the first ordained deacons of the Church and first martyrs. Appointed “archdeacon” as the oldest among the first seven deacons assigned to assist the 12 Apostles in pastoral care, he is accused of blasphemy. Filled with heavenly wisdom to admonish his accusers while also forgiving those stoning him to death, his final words were, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
