Sebastian joined the Roman Army in 283 solely to helped persecuted Christians, eventually selected for The Praetorian Guard. While converting others to Christianity, his faith was revealed to Emperor Diocletian who ordered him to be used a target - tied to a tree, shot full of arrows, and left for dead. He recovered and went directly back to Diocletian, firmly rebuking his persecution of Christians. He was captured again and beaten to death with clubs. His body was later buried in the catacombs. His intercession was sought against the plague in which he defended Rome in 680.
