Born in Italy, twin sister of St. Benedict, she consecrated her life to God early in her youth. After Benedict established his monastery, she founded one for nuns with similar rules (Regula) within a few miles, visiting each other annually to discuss spiritual matters. When she begged him to stay longer to continue their visit and he refused, her prayers sent a thunderstorm to prevent his departure; she died three days later. Benedict beheld her soul in a vision as it ascended into heaven. He prepared a tomb for her at his monastery and died soon after.
