Born in 1832 to devout Christian parents with a happy childhood in Lebanon until her mother died when she was 7. Struggling financially, her father sent her to Damascus to work as a domestic servant for four years. When she returned, her father had remarried, and relatives tried to offer her marriage proposals. She traveled to Our Lady of Deliverance convent, where she heard the voice of God tell her “You will be a nun” and eventually entered the Lebanese Maronite Order. After years of living contemplatively, she asked Jesus to share in His sufferings; immediately she suffered headaches and eye pain. In the last 17 years of her life she was completely blind and paralyzed yet was joyful and never complained. In her last 7 years she developed “the wound in the shoulder of Jesus” in her left shoulder. When she died in 1914, a light appeared on her grace for 3 nights with the smell of violets emanating from it. She is called “The Flower of Lebanon.”
