Born in France in 1811 and ordained in 1834, he served as a parish priest before his intense devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary led him to join the Marists (society of Mary). He left to form the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament order (priests) and the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament (nuns) who devoted themselves to perpetual adoration, establishing public exposition in Paris in 1857. Pictured with a monstrance and humeral veil, he promoted devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and the Blessed Virgin Mary. A friend of St. John Vianney, Peter suffered from migraines and weak lungs throughout his life but died at 57 of a brain hemorrhage.
