3rd c. Martyrs in Africa, Perpetua was a 22 yd old married noblewoman and nursing mother; Felicity was her slave and an expectant mother. Their popular Passion story was read during early liturgies. Following her mother and against her pagan father, Perpetua became a Christian. Arrested with Felicity, they received visions to pray for only endurance in trial. Illegal to execute pregnant women, Felicity’s prayers were answered when she delivered and able to join in the execution.
