Born in Roman Britain in 387, he was captured by Irish pirates at 14 and taken to the pagan land of Ireland as a slave to tend sheep. Escaping at 20, he returned home only to receive a vision to be “The Voice of the Irish.”
Entering the priesthood and appointed a bishop, he returned to bring the Gospel to Ireland. He preached and converted the Irish for over 40 years, often using the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity and driving paganism (depicted as a snake) out of Ireland.
