A 9th c. beautiful, young Christian girl, she was kidnapped by Muslims. Brought to Tunisia, she was allowed to live in a cave as a hermit. When she was found to have cured and converted many Muslims, they tortured and imprisoned her. After converting her executioner to the faith, she was beheaded and burned a marytr (palm). It is said her soul was seen flying to Heaven as a dove. She is held in esteem by Christians and Muslims today. Also known as St. Olive, the olive branch is a symbol of peace, fruitfulness, dignity and beauty.
