Born in Africa in 333, she was a Christian married to a pagan with three children, whose gentleness and prayers endured his temper and led him to baptism before his death. When her son Augustine started form his Christianity, she followed him to Italy, where in Milan she met the bishop St. Ambrose and heard “the child of those tears shall never perish.” After praying for 17 years for her son, Augustine would find his conversion through Ambrose and final peace for his mother before her passing on their return trip to Africa.
