Born in late 600s the daughter of Merewalh, King of Mgonsaete to a pious family, her sisters Mildred of Thanet and Mildgytha becoming saints and Uncles Ethelred and Ethelbricht were martyrs. Sought in marriage by a prince, escaped across a river that miraculously swelled. Entered the Benedictine monastery of Wenlock in Salop, Shropshire, England, founded by endowments from her father and uncle, Wulhere of Mercia. Received the veil from St. Theodore of Canterbury and eventually installed abbess, a former well-connected princess across England and abroad. Educated in France, she was noted for her humility and endowed with the gift of healing and restoring sight to the blind. Organized the evangelization and pastoral care of south Shropshire. Said to have had a mysterious power over birds, who would avoid damaging local crops upon her request. Associated with the miraculous creation of a spring, the growth of barley, and the gift of levitation. Died in 716. Feast Day: February 23
