Born in 1866 in Tepechitlan, Zacatecas, Mexico; with scarce resources, completed his education in the Zacatecas seminary in 1893. Serving throughout Mexico, became a well-known priest (giving first communion to a young St. Miguel Pro), enthusiastically dedicated to his ministry, a notable preacher on the sacrament of confession and active in Knights of Columbus. Arrested by soldiers in 1927 during the Catholic persecution by the Mexican government. Accused of supporting the Cristeros, jailed at a former seminary now military headquarters and ordered to hear the confessions of Cristeros rebels sentenced to die. After encouraging the condemned men to die honorably, ordered to violate the sacramental seal and reveal matters divulged in the confessions. “I will never do that,” was his response. When threatened to shoot him, he replied, “…a priest must keep the secret of confession. I am ready to die.” Martyred by firing squad, his relics are in the Cathedral of Durango. Feast Day: May 21
