Feast Day: April 30
Born in France in 1599 to a master baker, she married a silk merchant at 17 and bore a son. She ran his successful business after his death two years later, later sold it and entered the Ursulines at Tours in 1631 and her son became a monk. Sent to Canada to establish the first Ursuline convent in Quebec in 1641, she taught and compiled dictionaries in Algonquin and Iroquois the rest of her life while plagued with liver disease after 1645. She experienced mystical visions and spiritual aridity as shared in letters to her son. Regarded as one of the Founders of Canada, her statue stands in front of Quebec Parliament.
