Canada’s first canonized woman saint, born in France in 1620 and through trials became a nun. Our Lady called her to missionary work, “Go and I will not forsake you;” after 21 years of persistence she had a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Good Help (statue from Montreal chapel). Despite the dangerous new frontier, in 1653 she traveled to Montreal to teach children. While the Bishop wanted her to join the cloistered Ursulines in Quebec, she resisted knowing the poor and uneducated could not travel. Founded the sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1658 to educate Indian and French children, with sisters living in huts across the territory. One of the first active teaching orders of its kind. Survived much in the Canadian wilderness including Iroquois attacks, fire destroying her village, and plagues on ships. The “Mother of the Colony,” one of the founders of Montreal, dying in 1700. Patron of the poor, those rejected by religious orders.

Made of wood, felt, ribbon, and handmade accessories. Includes tag and card with Saint's biography and description. Approximately 4" tall. Packaged in cellophane bag. Shipped in box with bubble wrap.
