An English princess of the House of Wessex, she was born in 1045 in exile in Hungary. Returning to England at 10, when her father died, her mother escaped with the children from William the Conqueror on a ship that wrecked off Scotland, now called “St. Margaret’s Hope.” Welcomed by the King of Scotland, he married Margaret and had 8 children all raised with a deep Catholic faith. Her kind nature influenced her husband Malcolm to become a virtuous king. Together they prayed, fed the hungry and offered a powerful example of living faith. Admiring her devout faith, her husband had her books decorated with jewels. “The Pearl of Scotland” she died four days after Malcolm and oldest son killed in battle. Patron of Scotland, large families, against death of children
