Born in France in 1779 during the French Revolution, educated by older brother Louis with strict discipline and penances. Went to Paris with Louis for his ordination where she worked as a seamstress and taught catechism to The Marais quarter children. Desiring to be a Carmelite (but abolished in France in 1790), with three other postulants and Fr. Joseph Varin, founded the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1800; devoted to the Sacred Heart and dedicated to teaching girls, she was appointed Superior General at 23 and remained for 63 years. Founded 105 houses with 3500 members in Europe, North Africa, the American continent. Patron: school girls
