Born around 300AD, at 20 Lucy and her sick mother traveled to St. Agatha’s tomb to pray for a cure, where the Saint appeared promising her mother’s healing. Lucy broke off her engagement and consecrated herself to Christ, enraging her fiancé who denounced her as a Christian. Guards could not remove her, even with an oxen team, as she was supernaturally rooted to the ground. Stabbed by the guard, she lived long enough to receive Holy Communion. Legend tells of injury to her eyes restored at burial. Scandinavian wear candle wreaths on her feast day. Patron of light and eye ailments
