Born in a Mohawk village in 1656, she is the first Native American saint. Her Algonquin mother was captured and married a Mohawk chief. Her entire family died in a smallpox outbreak that scarred her skin at 4, resulting in her wearing a blanket to hide her face from the humiliation. Raised by her uncle, she was a skilled, patient and diligent worker; she refused to marry, converted to Catholicism at 19, and moved to a Christian native community before dying of sickness at 24. In her steadfast devotion, she chose Kateri – the Mohawk form of Catherine – in honor of St. Catherine of Siena. Patron of the environment, Native Americans.

Made of wood, felt, ribbon, and handmade accessories. Includes tag and card with Saint's biography and description. Approximately 4" tall. Packaged in cellophane bag. Shipped in box with bubble wrap.
