Born into Carthage nobility and sold into slavery during a barbaric attack to a pagan merchant, she was cheerful without complaint with even the most daunting chores. Passionately loving God, she prayed and read books on piety after chores. Taken to a pagan festival, her lack of participation concerned the island governor, who tried to buy her with four of his best slaves. Her owner refused, calling her his most valuable possession. The governor secretly tempted Julia to worship the gods for her freedom, but she refused. Tortured, her hair torn from her head, she hung upon a cross until she died.
