Born in Spain in 1495, his hasty nature challenged him his entire life. Ran away from home at 8 to follow a priest offering new adventures, begging from city to city. After illness, adopted by an estate manager to become a shepherd until 27 when joined the worldliness of the Spanish army. Revelation after thrown from a stolen horse and later hearing St. John of Avila, convicted to penance. Spiritual reading joy led to peddling religious books. His impulsive heart for Christ cared for the poor in the streets, rescued patients from a burning hospital, and his death from pneumonia after a water rescue.
