Born in 1459 in Yorkshire, England and educated at Cambridge, he was appointed Confessor to the mother of King Henry VII, creating scholarships with her endowments. As Bishop of Rochester and Chancellor of Cambridge, he tutored young Henry VIII. Unlike other bishops and in agreement with St. Thomas More, he actively opposed King Henry’s divorce to Catherine and remarriage to Anne, as well as the King’s encroachment on the Church. While imprisoned, he was made a Cardinal by Pope Paul III but beheaded a month later. Patron of Diocese of Rochester, England
