Born into royalty in 1207, her mother was killed when she was a child, forever changing Elizabeth’s perspective on life and death, seeking peace through prayer. Her life of prayer and charity was supported by her husband Ludwig, whom she loved and parented three children.
At 16, she instilled Franciscan ideals into her royal life, secretly brought bread to the poor daily, and built a hospital to care for them before dying at 24. Her “miracle of roses” occurred when delivering bread in secret, she was caught and asked to open her basket, which had turned to roses.
