Born in New York City in 1774 to a wealthy Episcopalian family, she married and raised five children. As a widow, she converted to Catholicism. Starting a girls school, she formed the first American religious community, the Sisters of Charity of St. Joseph, which grew to 20 communities. Mother Seton was canonized as the first native-born American saint. Patron of Catholic schools. Feast Day: January 4
