Born in Poland in 1891, she was the youngest of a large Jewish family. An outstanding student, she was a nurse and well versed in philosophy in later studies. Intrigued by Catholicism, she was convicted to convert after reading St. Teresa of Avila’s autobiography and baptized in 1922; she entered the Discalced Carmelite monastery in Cologne in 1933 as Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. Given her Jewish heritage, she was sent to Carmel in Holland to protect her; however, when the Nazis conquered Holland, she was arrested and her sister Rose and sent to the concentration camp in Auschwitz where she died in the gas chamber in 1942.

Made of wood, felt, ribbon, and handmade accessories. Includes tag and card with Saint's biography and description. Approximately 4" tall. Packaged in cellophane bag. Shipped in box with bubble wrap.
