Born in 1840 in Belgium, he followed his older brother and two older sisters into religious life. When his brother was ordered to Hawaii but fell ill, Damien took his place, fulfilling his missionary desire. Ordained two months after arriving, he worked nine years as a priest before volunteering to serve the quarantined Leper community in Molokai. With alcoholism and little law/order, he provided leadership, built houses, schools and the St. Philomena church. Contracting leprosy in 1885, he inspired others as he lived out his last four years with happiness and toughness (with a cane and red scarf arm sling). Patron of people with leprosy

Made of wood, felt, ribbon, and handmade accessories. Includes tag and card with Saint's biography and description. Approximately 4" tall. Packaged in cellophane bag. Shipped in box with bubble wrap.
