Born into a wealthy French family in 1858, he lost his faith after orphaned young. Disciplined for his behavior, he barely making it through military school. Military operations in Algeria during the French colonial era exposed him to the faith of Muslim people. Inspired, he left the military in search of faith and found Jesus. Joining the Trappists, he left to imitate the life of Jesus of Nazareth with a truly contemplative ordinary life. Returning to Algeria, he became known for a desert spirituality model, a prayer of abandonment and drawing the Tuareg people closer to the Gospel before dying at the hands of Islamic extremists in the confusion of WWI.
