Born in 1413 to an aristocratic family and daughter of a diplomat, Catherine received a wonderful education, excelling in reading, writing, singing, art, viola and Latin. At 13 she entered a convent determined to live a life of perfection. Admired for her holiness, at 19 she founded a monastery of the Poor Clares. Willing to humbly serve as laundress, baker and animal caretaker. She experienced visions of Jesus and Satan, including one of the Blessed Virgin placing the Baby Jesus in her arms. Her body remains incorrupt in the Bologna convent chapel, seated on a golden throne. Patron of artists, against temptations, Bologna
