Born in 1806 in France the 9th of 11 children, she became devoted to the Blessed Mother at 9 after her mother died. Soon after, St. Vincent de Paul appeared to her in a dream, saying that God had plans for her to care for the sick. Entering St. Vincent’s order, the Daughters of Charity in 1830, she received three apparitions from Our Lady who told Catherine to have an oval medal made with her image, “All who wear them will receive great graces.” The Miraculous Medal spread throughout the world.
