One of the 14 Holy Helpers, the daughter of a rich 3rd c. Greek. Extremely beautiful her father protected her in a tower. Although he presented suitors, she resisted. Admiring creation, she ran away, secretly baptized a Christian, and consecrated virgin. Enraged, her father found and tortured her; she refused to renounce her faith. Healed through prayers before beheaded by her father. Seeking cannon reliability, artilleryman adopted her selfless sacrifice and dignified service. Depicted with a chalice, she is patron of a Good Death who desires all to receive Last Rites. Invoked against fire, lightning, and explosions for artillerymen, minors.
