Joachim and Anne were the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary, grandparents of Jesus. What we know of them comes from Catholic legend and apocryphal writing of the Gospel of James in the 2nd c. A.D. They were faithful parents who raised her with love and devotion of God, teaching her Jewish traditions. Mary was consecrated to God and remained a virgin all her life.
