Born in 1521 in Sicily, baptized Lancellato, a devoted, handsome young man. With his chastity vulnerable to female admirers and to escape their importuning, he took ecclesiastical tonsure. Studied in Venice and Naples, ordained and received Doctorate of Law at 26. Served in Naples’ ecclesiastical court until realized he was capable of lying to win legal arguments; remorseful, he retired from the court. With great zeal for strict religious discipline and purity of the clergy, commissioned by Naples’ archbishop to reform a lax convent whose lack of discipline had become a source of great scandal. Attacked and severely wounded by men opposing this reformation, he was taken to the Theatine monastery to safely recuperate. Taking the name Andrew, entered the Order of Theatines, recently founded by St. Cajetan to promote clerical reform through asceticism and apostolic work. Died in 1608 at 88.

Patron of Naples, Sicily, invoked against sudden death, strokes, high blood pressure.
