Born in 2nd-3rd c. of Diocletian persecutions to a noble pagan father and Christian mother, she was baptized as an infant and secretly raised Christian. Married to a pagan who beat and locked her up, she distributed her property to the poor and traveled to care for the imprisoned faithful after his death. Threatened with torture, starvation for 60 days, and sent to drown in a broken boat, she never renounced her faith and baptized 120 men. Captured and staked to the ground, she was burnt alive. One of 7 women commemorated in the Canon of the Mass. “Deliverer from Potions,” she is patron of those suffering from poison, martyrs
