Born in 741 near Belgium/ Luxembourg into a devout Christian family, known for sterling character and piety. Although many men sought her for her immense beauty, she joined a convent and built a church in Temsche dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary where many miracles occurred. Her beauty caught the eye of Pepin, King of the Franks, and his son Charles (Charlemagne), who pursued her for several years, at one point breaking her arm in a struggle; miraculously healed, he accepted her vocation.
