Born in 1225 in Brussels, she entered the Cistercian convent at age seven with a spirit of humility, having leprosy, paralysis and blindness, and suffering from isolation. Because of her humble and courageous response to her affliction, she became an inspiration to the Cistercian community. Her greatest consolation was receiving the Holy Eucharist, but no wine due to her illness. Known for visions and ecstasies, the Lord had appeared to her with the assurance that to receive under one species was sufficient. Dying in 1250, there were many miracles attributed through her intercession. Patron of the blind and paralyzed
