Born in Rome in 285, ordained in the peace preceding the Diocletian persecutions. He passed through those days of terror, witnessed the abdication of Diocletian and Maximian, and saw the triumph of Constantine in 312, before becoming pope in 314. The Council of Nicea assembled during his reign in 325; unable to attend due to age, he sent four legates to represent him. Large churches built during his pontificate include: The Basilica of St. John Lateran, Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem, Old St. Peter’s Basilica. Legends endeared him after his death including: Constantine’s leprosy cured by baptismal water from Sylvester; the emperor walking before the pope’s horse holding the papal bridle as the papal groom; and the pope slaying a dragon. In many German-speaking countries, New Year’s Eve is “Silvester” and in others, “St. Sylvester’s Day”.

Made of wood, felt, ribbon, and handmade accessories. Includes tag and card with Saint's biography and description. Approximately 4" tall. Packaged in cellophane bag. Shipped in box with bubble wrap.
