Born circa 10AD in Volterra, raised in Tuscany; tradition teaches Claudia was his mother. Succeeded St. Peter to become the 2nd pope circa 67AD and 1st Roman pope for 9 years until his death. Mentioned in St. Paul’s 2nd letter to Timothy, consecrated a bishop by St. Paul and with him near the end of Paul’s life in Rome. Peter and Paul picked Linus as the next leader after the establishment of the Christian Church and chose Rome as headquarters. First to allow women to attend Church services but remain quiet and cover their heads. Listed as a martyr but no evidence in how he died; his relics are in St. Peter’s in Rome.
