The rose is the favorite flower of Our Lady herself, the Madonna of the Rose. She brought beautiful roses with her at Guadalupe, La Salette, Lourdes and other apparitions. According to approved revelation, Mary’s wedding garment was “richly embroidered with blue, white, violet and gold roses.” At the Incarnation when the Angel left, showers of roses fell on Mary. Among the many feasts of Our Lady is one mentioned in an old Latin chronicle: “January 30, Our Lady of the Rose, at Lucca in Italy. Three roses were found in January in the arms of the state of Our Lady there.” Roses are such a beautiful gift of love. The best kind of roses that we can give Our Lady is praying the Rosary which means “Crown of Roses.” Each Our Father and Hail Mary is a rose for Our Lady; therefore, the praying of a Rosary is a full crown of roses for Mary.
