It was midnight when St. Catherine Laboure was awakened and led to the chapel where the Blessed Mother appeared to her. Four months later in November 1830, Mary again appeared on a globe with dazzling light streaming from her outstretched hands; an inscription framed the apparition: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” Mary spoke, “Have a medal struck upon this model. Those who wear it will receive great graces, especially is they wear it around the neck.” With Church approval, the first “Miraculous Medals” were distributed in 1832; devotion spread with more than a billion medals made by 1876. The front side has Our Lady as seen in the apparition; on the reverse is the Cross and the letter M (Mary or Mother) to symbolize her close relationship to her Son. The bar under the cross is a sign of the earth and the Altar. The two hearts are the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart. The crown of 12 stars (Rev 12:1) also signify the 12 tribes of Israel and 12 Apostles.

Made of wood, felt, ribbon, and handmade accessories. Includes tag and card with Saint's biography and description. Approximately 4" tall. Packaged in cellophane bag. Shipped in box with bubble wrap.
