This devotion was revealed in 14thc. to St. Bridget of Sweden to bring great spiritual graces. It consists in praying seven Hail Mary’s while meditating on each of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady: (1) The Prophecy of Simon; (2) The Flight into Egypt; (3) The Loss of Jesus for Three Days; (4) The Carrying of the Cross; (5) The Crucifixion of Jesus; (6) Jesus Taken Down from the Cross; and (7) Jesus is Laid in the Tomb. The Blessed Virgin Mary willingly suffered alongside her Divine Son as He gave His life to save the world and felt the bitterness of His passion as only a mother can. This devotion is especially popular in September and Lent.
