Little Mariette Beco, watching for her brother to return home, saw a lady in their Banneux garden. Her father a lapsed Catholic, none of them had attended Mass, but she knew it was the Holy Virgin. Their pastor dismissed her thinking the nearby visions of Beauraing and Lourdes encouraged similar stories. Mariette went to Mass the next morning, onto school, and then knelt to pray the rosary in their garden. When her father went to her, she was beckoned by the lady to a spring where she plunged her hands commanded by the lady, “This spring is set aside for me. Good night!” and vanished. Mariette described the lady similar to Lourdes. Six or seven more apparitions occurred; when asked her name she said, “I am the Virgin of the poor. This spring is for all nations…for the sick…I would like a chapel built. I come to relieve suffering. Have faith in me and pray much.” A chapel was built and the spring a site of numberless cures.
