Entering the Institute of the Handmaids of the Holy Eucharist in Akita in June 1973 at 42, Buddhist convert Sister Agnes had visions of her guardian angel before the Tabernacle and received the stigmata on her left hand. Her angel drew attention to the wooden statue of Mary near the altar with a cross behind her and the globe at her feet. Appearing to come to life, Mary spoke to Agnes, curing her deafness. Together they recited a prayer to “the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, TRULY present in the Holy Eucharist” for the clergy. Miraculously, stigmata and human blood, tears and sweat appeared on the statue until September 15, 1979, The Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows.
