The beautiful wife of Abraham, her original name was Sarai. Barren, she tried to take matters into her own hands through her servant Hagar and son Ishmael. Sarah laughed at God’s promise to Abraham that she would be “a mother of nations…your descendants as numerous as the stars…through them all nations will be blessed.” At 90, she bore Isaac with Abraham. Through Isaac, God’s fulfilled His promise. Isaac fathered Jacob; Jacob fathered 12 sons – the heads of the 12 tribes of Israel. From the tribe of Judah came David, and finally Jesus of Nazareth. She lived to 127 and her burial at the “Cave of the Patriarchs” with Abraham is the first mentioned in the Bible.
