Esther was a beautiful Jewish woman who was selected by the Persian King Ahasuerus to be his wife, not knowing she was a Jew. When her uncle, Mordecai, learned of a plot to kill the king, he alerted the king through Esther. One of the princes, Hama, devised a plan to eliminate Mordecai and the Jews, convincing the king to kill them. Esther and her maids fasted for three days before she approached the king, asking him to stop the new law, as she too was a Jew. The king changed his mind, and once learning of Haman’s conniving schemes, had him killed. Queen Esther is a heroine of the Old Testament and the Jewish people.
