Built the First Holy Temple in Jerusalem for the Ark of the Covenant to rest, made of stone and cedar wood, covered in gold and completed in 7 years; then his own palace in 13 years. Extended Jerusalem to the north and created walled fortified cities. Life story is told in Kings I and Chronicles II. Downfall came in old age with many foreign wives who worshiped other gods, and under heavy taxation his people grew bitter. Dying after 40 years as king, his son Rehoboam succeeded and divided the kingdom into 2 parts.
