Brother Francisco (9), sister Jacinta (7) and cousin Lucia (10) witnessed the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in 1917 in Portugal while tending their family’s sheep. Although illiterate, their rich tradition of faith led them to share their experience. After Mary showed the children a vision of Hell, they entered wholeheartedly into making reparation for sins through prayer, fasting, and penance. Francisco and Jacinta died as young children, but Lucia entered a convent where she lived a long life and continued to share the message of Fatima
