Born of the ancient noble family of the Dues of Lorraine, her earnest efforts to lead a virtuous life attracted attention very early in her life. After the death of her husband Duke Rene of Alengcon she assumed the government of the duchy, guided solely by Catholic principles. By means of prudence financially, she saved a significant amount of materials to aid the poor and needy, particularly in nursing the sick and lepers. She built churches, convents and hospitals everywhere. She was interested in the subject matters taught in schools and instruction of people; hard-hearted officials and landlords were dealt with by her with great severity. She remained very humble, spending a great part of the day meditating on the sufferings of Christ and performing works of penance. In later years, she turned the government over to her son and invested in the Third Order, eventually entering the convent of the Poor Clares she founded at Argenton. Died there in 1527; in 1792 her body was found incorrupt.
